Harbhajan Singh warns Team India against spinning track at Visakhapatnam: 'This batting unit is young'

The Indian cricket team did not have a promising start to the five-match Test series against England having suffered a defeat in the opening contest. Team India will be desperate to script a comeback in the series and the Rohit Sharma-led side had to make some changes to their squad ahead of the second Test. India will be without KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja in the next game due to injury issues. In their absence, the Indian team management decided to add three players — batter Sarfaraz Khan, all-rounder Washington Sundar and left-arm spinner Sourabh Kumar — to the squad.

Upon the announcement of the revised squad, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh predicted that the Visakhapatnam ground, where the second Test against England will be played, can be a spinning track. Harbhajan even stated that a repeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final may be experienced during the second Test between India and England.

“The team looks decent, but lacks experience. Yes, there is Rohit Sharma, but the next best run-scorer is Ashwin. In terms of batting, the line-up looks weak. And if they play on a turning track, which I feel they will because they have added Washington Sundar while having Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin and Axar Patel,” Harbhajan said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“I fear India don’t end up losing after making a turning pitch for England. This batting unit is young, they need time, and if they get a good track, they might even perform well,” the World Cup-winning former India spinner added.

Team India had to concede a defeat in the opening Test against England in Hyderabad. Chasing a total of 231, the hosts fell short by 28 runs. English spinner Tom Hartley had a brilliant outing in the game as he registered a seven-wicket haul in the second innings.

England’s Ollie Pope was adjudged Player of the Match for his magnificent batting in the first Test. Pope produced a fantastic knock of 196 in the second innings of the series opener.

India’s updated squad for the second Test against England: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Avesh Khan, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Washington Sundar, Sourabh Kumar
