A police constable in Bengaluru allegedly killed his wife after travelling to her parents’ home following 150 attempts to reach her on phone.
The deceased allegedly had given birth to a boy, just 11 days ago. Her family has alleged that the police constable mistreated his wife over the phone, believing she was unfaithful.
On Monday morning, he drove 230 km from Chamarajanagar town to his wife’s parents’ home near Hoskote, where he killed his wife by strangulation after consuming pesticide.
In Kalathur village, which is close to Hoskote, the boy was born eleven days ago to the deceased, Prathiba, a 24-year-old. Kishore D, 32, the accused, is reportedly recuperating in a hospital.
As per reports, he worked at the Chamarajanagar East police station in Ramasamudra, Chamarajanagar.
He was rushed to Tamaka’s RL Jalappa Hospital in Kolar. He was moved to a different hospital by Hoskote police. Kishore would be placed under arrest after being released, according to the police.
Subramani, the Bettahalasur gram panchayat secretary, had a younger daughter named Prathiba.
She married Kishore on November 13, 2022, after receiving her BE in computer science. Kishore hails from Kolar district’s Veerapura.
Police claim that Kishore had doubts about Prathiba’s character and would frequently check her call logs and messages, probing the background of anyone who spoke or messaged her. Additionally, he used to claim that she was living in close quarters with a few of her male college roommates.
For some reason, on Sunday night, Kishore called Prathiba and began berating her. Prathiba’s mother Venkatalakshmamma picked up the phone and ended the call while she was sobbing.
She warned Prathiba that her newborn’s health would suffer if she continued to cry. She recommended Prathiba not pick up Kishore’s calls.
Prathiba discovered that Kishore had called her 150 times the following morning. Prathiba told her parents about the situation.
Kishore showed up at Prathiba’s parents’ home on Monday at 11.30 a.m., according to the police. When he got home, Venkatalakshmamma was heading to the terrace. The infant and Prathiba were on the ground floor of the house.
Kishore allegedly swallowed insecticide before latching the door from the inside, according to the police. Using a dupatta, he strangled Prathiba to death. After coming downstairs, Venkatalakshmamma knocked on the door, but nobody answered.
She knocked again, sensing danger, and asked Kishore to open the door. After fifteen minutes, he did so.
He said to Venkatalakshamma, “Kondu bitte avalna, kondu bitte (I killed her, I killed her),” and then he ran away.
Subramani has demanded that Kishore be imprisoned harshly for life. In addition, he said Kishore’s mother had been pestering his daughter about the dowry. A murder case has been filed against Kishore based on the father’s complaint.
