India ended their 20-year ICC events jinx against New Zealand in the group stage of the 2023 Cricket World Cup when they defeated the Kiwis by four wickets in Dharamsala on 22 October. The two teams meet again in the 2023 World Cup semi-final on Wednesday (15 November) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, which will be a repeat of the 2019 World Cup semi-final where India lost by 18 runs.

Before the 2023 group stage win, the last time India beat New Zealand in an ICC tournament was back in 2003 at the ODI World Cup. Then, the Sourav Ganguly-led India beat New Zealand by seven wickets. Since then, India had lost to the Black Caps in every match in ICC events till October 2023.
Before 2003 the last India had defeated New Zealand was at the 1987 ODI World Cup. In fact, India have lost nine out of 13 matches against the Black Caps in ICC white-ball tournaments. India also lost to New Zealand in the 2021 World Test Championship final.
