India vs South Africa 1st Test LIVE
Shaun Pollock and Ravi Shastri with the toss report: "Good covering of grass. Teams tend to bat first because it tends to start a bit slow. As the Test progresses, there might be a bit of up and down movement which could be tricky to handle. Batting will get difficult as the Test progresses. With the weather conditions, South Africa would be tempted to go without a spinner. With the sun out, the pitch tends to crack a bit more and get the spinners into play. Don't expect the pitch to change too much across the Test. The best approach is bat first, guts it out in the first two session and be happy if you're just 2 down at Lunch."

India's Test record in South Africa
India’s record in South Africa reads: 23 matches, 4 wins, 12 defeats and 7 draws. These are spread over eight series and in all but one attempt, South Africa have won
India’s four Test wins have come in 2006, 2010, 2018 and 2021 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and twice with Virat Kohli.
India first travelled to South Africa in November 1992 under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin and lost 0-1. Then Sachin Tendulkar held the captaincy duties in 1996 and the team lost 0-2. Since then, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli (KL Rahul, too, for one match) have stepped in as captains but never been able to steer the team to a series win.

India vs South Africa LIVE
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the India vs South Africa Test series that gets underway today at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Another opportunity for India to end their winless record in the Rainbow Nation. Is this it?
India vs South Africa 1st Test Live: Only three teams have ever won a Test series in South Africa. That honour belongs to England, Australia and Sri Lanka. India, however, do not belong to this list and it is something that they would be eager to address as a two-match series gets underway on Boxing Day. India have travelled to South Africa eight times for a Test series and lost seven of them. The closest they’ve come was in December 2010 and January 2011 when the series finished 1-1.
The next 13 days would be a great opportunity for the Men in Blue to address this record. With the pace bowling battery, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, one of the best in the world, India are in a strong position. It is a shame that Mohammed Shami, struck down by an ankle injury, will not be part of the effort.
While the bowling looks great, the batting isn’t as threatening. Yashasvi Jaiwal, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have never played a Test in South Africa before. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have a dismal batting average in the Rainbow Nation. Only anomaly from this trend is Virat Kohli whose average is 49.29 in South Africa – only behind his numbers in India and Australia.
Much focus in the home camp will be on Dean Elgar who is playing his farewell series for South Africa. Also of note and concern will be the fitness of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi who are coming off heel and ankle issues.
