Team India selectors face Bumrah conundrum ahead of picking India's squad for last 3 Tests vs England

The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee were expected to announce India’s squad for the remaining three Tests against England on Thursday, but it didn’t happen and there’s no clarity on when the announcement will be made. As per a report, the selection meeting on Thursday may have got pushed to Friday due to some of the key personnel missing.

They are now expected to meet virtually on Friday to take a final call with pacer Jasprit Bumrah in focus.

India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid could also attend the selection meeting as hosts look to clinch the five-match series which is levelled 1-1 after two matches.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, the initial discussion between team management and selectors revolved around resting Bumrah for the third Test at Rajkot and Mohammed Siraj replacing him but the subsequent discussions have pushed the selectors towards the idea of continuing with the star pacer considering the history of the pitch at Rajkot which has favoured fast bowlers in the past.

Bumrah himself has reportedly been part of the discussions.

The 30-year-old has been India’s best bowler in the two matches, outgunning the spinners and has 15 wickets to his name. He leads the wicket-taker’s chart and his nine wickets at Visakhapatnam helped India level the series after losing at Hyderabad.

With each match and every point assuming significance due to the World Test Championship, India may decide to continue with Bumrah at Rajkot to continue the winning momentum.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported by Cricbuzz that Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, who missed the second Test due to injury issues, have made “promising” progress and are expected to be picked in the squad.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, may not feature after missing the first two Tests due to personal reasons. As per another report, Kohli has still not informed BCCI about his availability.
